At nine years old, Amara had never sat in a classroom. Her family in rural Uganda could not afford the school fees, and her days were spent helping her mother carry water and gather firewood.

When Bread and Water Relief partnered with her local community, Amara was enrolled in school within three months. She received a uniform, books, and two meals a day on site. Her teacher says she is one of the sharpest students in the class.
